Plenty of Winter Tennis Options to Keep You Busy
Social, Competitive, or Instructional Offerings Available
We are a hardy bunch in Colorado and the natives know that Denver has over 300 days of sunshine per year to enjoy our outdoor tennis. Throughout the winter, we will have adult instructional classes and drills and private lessons for your learning needs. And when you want to put those tips to use, we will offer our ever popular Social Mixers on Sundays and competitive play on the Winter Adult Singles Ladder. If you prefer less structure, courts will be shoveled and cleared for regular court reservations.
Can You Climb the Ladder?
Winter Singles Ladder - If you like singles enjoy Gates' longest running program
The Gates Tennis Center offers one of the largest ladders in the country for the following levels: Men (5.0, 4.5, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0), Women (4.5, 4.0, 3.5, 3.0, 2.5). The computerized ladder offers printouts with names, phone numbers, and email addresses. The ladder also offers drop-in time on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Players who have completed at least 5 matches can qualify for a USTA-sanctioned end of ladder season tournament. The fee to participate on the ladder is only $12 per season. For more information see the Winter Ladder flyer.
The Biggest, Best Colorado State Open Yet!
2013 Colorado State Open - September 13 - 22
The Colorado State Open was the biggest Colorado State Open on record; we had over 1,543 entrants and 1,039 unique participants! Not only was it the biggest Colorado State Open on record, the field of athletes played their way through the great 500 year flood with players navigating side roads from Fort Collins to waiting for flood waters to recede enough to leave Longmont to patiently waiting hours through rain delays. We are so proud of the tennis community for overcoming these obstacles, as well as a special thanks to Metro State and the City of Denver for allowing us use of extra courts to make up rained out matches. After the rain concluded, new men's and women's singles champions were crowned; Chilean Julio Peralta defeated two-time defending champion, Brian Battistone, in the finals and Vasilisa Bardina overcame the Denver City Open Champion, Lauren Strasburger, to take the women's championship. On a local note, University of Denver duo of Enej Bonin and Henry Craig, took out top seeds, Julio Peralta and Malcom Harrison, as well, in the Men's Doubles final.
